How Should I Get to Devil’s Thumb?

Option #1: Fly into DIA - Rent a Car!

If you’re renting a car from Denver International Airport, it will be a 1 hour and 45 min drive along I-70 and up and over the spectacular Berthoud Pass. Once through the city of Denver, it is a majestic drive into the Rocky Mountains. There is ample free parking at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch is located at:

3530 County Road 83, Tabernash, CO 80478

Option #2: Leave the driving to someone else!

If you’d rather leave the driving to someone else, Nadia will drive you to the ranch! Just kidding. Grand Mountain Rides and Home James Express have regular daily shuttles from DIA and will drop off in Winter Park or at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. They are also available for private scheduling.

Option #3: Take the train!

The California Zephyr train runs daily from Union Station in Downtown Denver at 8:46am to Winter Park, Colorado. It has been named one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America.

When we take the train, we get off at Winter Park, walk the 5 minutes to Sharkey’s for breakfast, and arrange a quick 10 minute taxi to Devil’s Thumb with Home James.

Before you arrive at 8,500 feet…

Taking the train? We recommend flying in the night before and staying near Union Station—it makes for an easier travel day. And if you're coming from lower elevation, a night in Denver is a nice chance to adjust to the altitude before heading up to the mountains. Here are a few nearby hotels to check out:

Hilton Garden Inn - Union Station

Located across from the Coors Field and a few blocks away from Union Station for those planning on taking the train.

The Crawford Hotel - Union Station

Located in Union Station and very convenient for those taking the train.

The Westin - DIA

Located within the Denver International Airport. You can take the A-line RTD train from here to Union Station to be in the heart of Denver & take the Amtrak up to Fraser.
