Frequently asked questions.
What is Winter Park/Tabernash?
Nestled in the Fraser Valley just 70 miles west of Denver and Denver International Airport, Winter Park is a cozy mountain town at the base of the Continental Divide.
While it’s famous for its ski slopes, Winter Park is just as magical in the fall. Guests can enjoy scenic gondola rides, hiking trails lined with golden aspens, mountain biking, fly fishing, or simply strolling through the charming downtown full of shops and cafés. It’s the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
As September rolls around, Winter Park shows off its quieter side — crisp mountain air, vibrant fall colors, and fewer crowds create a cozy and stunning mountain vibe.
What should I wear?
For our welcome party, we’d love if you joined us in dressing for a “psychedelic western” theme. We’ll be celebrating Sukkot underneath the stars with a Grateful Dead cover band, so it’s only right. If you’re wondering what “psychedelic western” means — it’s Sukkot on the ranch with a Grateful Dead twist—layers, warmth, and color welcome!
Outfit examples:
Chunky sweaters + fleece vests + flared jeans
Quilted jackets + colorful wool scarf + boots
Sweater dress + tights + knee-high boots + fringe jacket
Retro zip-neck sweater in bold colors + quilted puffer vest + corduroy bell bottoms + western boots
Psychedelic graphic tee under a corduroy blazer + dark jeans
For our wedding, the dress code is “Mountain Formal: Fall edition”.
This is formalwear meets fall colors—please dress for a formal celebration with the outdoors in mind.
Outfit examples:
Dark suits or suits in fun fall colors (brown, tweed, green, burnt orange, etc)
Earth-toned suit + cashmere turtleneck instead of dress shirt
Floor-length or midi-length gowns in marigold, wine, copper, emerald, etc.
Dressy separates in fall hues (like satin skirts with sweaters)
Shawls or stylish wraps encouraged
While we think dress codes are fun, not everyone does :) Come as you are comfortable!
What’s Sukkot?
It’s a Jewish harvest holiday that’s all about gathering, gratitude, and eating under the stars in a makeshift outdoor structure called a sukkah.
Since our Welcome Party falls on the second night of Sukkot, we’re bringing a little Sukkot energy into our weekend to celebrate the beauty of being together, surrounded by nature, and reminded of what really matters: good people, good food, and remembering to look up at the sky sometimes.
No prior experience required. Just come ready to toast, laugh, and maybe witness a rabbinical surprise or two.
Are kids invited?
We would be so happy to have your children join us at the welcome party!
For the wedding day, because it will be an espresso-martini-forward event with a saucy toast or two, we’ll be celebrating with adults only.
If helpful, here is a list of vetted babysitters in the Grand County area. It’s regularly updated by a local school principal.
What will the weather be like?
Late September in the Colorado Rockies is stunning, but also unpredictable! During the day, you can typically expect sunny skies with crisp mountain air and temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s°F. Evenings cool down quickly, often dropping into the 30s or 40s°F, so you’ll definitely want a jacket or wrap for nighttime events. Layers and options are your friend - pack everything from beanies to bikinis!
Is altitude real?
As you arrive in Colorado, remember that the higher elevations can take some getting used to. To minimize the risk of altitude sickness, make sure to drink plenty of water upon your arrival. This will help your body acclimate more smoothly, especially if you plan on enjoying outdoor activities during your stay.
About 20% of people experience altitude sickness, so for some, it might be worth staying in Denver for a night before traveling to higher altitudes.
Is there a smoking area?
Due to the high fire risk in Tabernash, Devil's Thumb Ranch is a smoke-free property.
Will transportation be provided to the wedding?
For the wedding day, we will be providing transportation for folks staying at Gravity Haus or the Holiday Inn. If you’re staying at Devil’s Thumb, all events are walkable!
We won’t be providing transport for the welcome day — there’s ample free parking at the Ranch.
